Report a Calculation Issue

Have you found an unexpected result, an unclear assumption, or a possible error in a ChemSOF calculator or worked example? Your report can help us investigate the issue and improve the resource.

Use the form on the Contact page to send your report. Please identify it as a calculation issue and include the details below where available.

What to Include

  • Calculator or page: The name and URL of the affected resource.
  • Inputs and units: The values, units, and settings used.
  • Result received: The result displayed, including its units.
  • Expected result: What you expected, if known, and how you obtained it.
  • Assumptions and references: Any relevant conditions, equations, or sources.
  • Steps to reproduce: What you entered or selected before the issue appeared.
  • Version and device: The calculator version, browser, and device if relevant and available.

You can report an issue even if you are unsure of the expected result. A clear description of what seemed unusual is a helpful starting point.

Protect Confidential Information

Please use illustrative or non-confidential values where possible. Avoid sending proprietary process data, plant details, personal information, or other sensitive material through the contact form. Do not send confidential information merely to demonstrate a problem.

What Happens Next

ChemSOF aims to review reports according to their potential impact and the information available. A review may involve reproducing the result, checking units and assumptions, consulting sources, and testing the calculation.

If an issue is confirmed, an appropriate response may include correcting the tool or explanation, adding a notice, or temporarily making the calculator unavailable while it is assessed. Changes that affect results should be tested against suitable reference cases before release.

Investigation times vary. Some reports require additional information or may not be reproducible, and an individual response cannot be guaranteed.

Earlier Results

If a calculator is corrected, a notice or changelog entry may describe the issue and affected version or period when known. If you saved or used an earlier result, consider recalculating it with the corrected tool and independently assessing its relevance to your work.

For more information, see the Corrections Policy and Calculation Development & Validation pages.

Thank you for helping make ChemSOF clearer and more reliable.
